"M" is for Mermaid

Today we studied the letter "M"! We talked about words that began with the letter "M", read stories and even turned ourselves into Mermaids (and Mermen!)

Later we even made "M Monsters"

Global Citizenship

This year our Summer Program's Theme is Global Citizenship. We spent some of our first day reading and talking about what it means to be a global citizenship of the world. Our follow-up activity was of us holding the whole world up. This activity was a fun way to get to know each other as well.

The students posed for the camera as if they were holding the world up. They also added their handprints to complete the world and give it a personal touch!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Before Thanksgiving break. we had the opportunity to read one of our favorite books, Turkey Trouble. Afterwards, we made some protesting turkeys and came up with alternative ideas for Thanksgiving meals.
Educators, you can find the pattern I used from my TPT account here.

We had some festive bulletin boards for the Thanksgiving Holiday as well. We had Five Little Pumpkins sitting on a Fence!

And our favorite giant Turkey! Check back soon and see how the Turkey is transformed into a Reindeer for the Holidays!

Handprint Witches with Light Up Noses

Happy Halloween from our crew to yours! Over the past few weeks, our class has been working on numbers 0-5. We thought making a witch out of our five fingers was a great way to celebrate both the number 5 and Halloween! Our handprint witch has a surprise though; her nose lights up! We used battery powered tea lights for the pointy nose.

Ghost in the House

We have been reading a fun story about a sweet ghost who runs into all of his friends during an evening stroll throughout his house. The book has helped us make predictions, with sequencing, and with counting both forward and backward. Last week we got to make our own friendly little ghost to go along with our story.

We used Elmers Glue, mixed with water, a small balloon, half of a paper cup to hold the balloon, and a roll of medical gauze.

We dipped pieces of our gauze in the glue mixture and draped it over our balloon. We made sure to have it touch the table so that when it dries the ghost has something to stand up on. We let our ghost dry over the weekend. Once dry, we removed the cup and balloon and had a free standing ghost! We added eyes and smile of course!

This is the second time I have done this with students. The first time was with bigger balloons and older students. If you would like to see that, check it out here.
