We have been having a lot of fun with our Ocean Theme over the past few days. Today we read a great book by Eric Carle titled "A House for a Hermit Crab". A story about a hermit crab looking for decorate his home with sea life and ends up making new friends. After we read the story we pretended to be hermit crabs! We made ourselves just like the hermit crab in the book, complete with a light up lantern fish!
This activity helped to reinforce reading/listening comprehension, sequencing of a story, body movement, gross motor and fine motor control, and following directions.
First we had fun posing like a crab!
Then it was time to paint our shells.
We then re-read the book and added all the sea creatures that the hermit crab encountered in the book.
Next we used battery tea light candles for our lantern fish. Mrs. Burns helped us poke them through a hole she had punched in the middle.
We are now hermit crabs!
This is so cute! How big did you print out the photos to make them fit the shells so well?
