Happy Thanksgiving!

Before Thanksgiving break. we had the opportunity to read one of our favorite books, Turkey Trouble. Afterwards, we made some protesting turkeys and came up with alternative ideas for Thanksgiving meals.
Educators, you can find the pattern I used from my TPT account here.

We had some festive bulletin boards for the Thanksgiving Holiday as well. We had Five Little Pumpkins sitting on a Fence!

And our favorite giant Turkey! Check back soon and see how the Turkey is transformed into a Reindeer for the Holidays!

Handprint Witches with Light Up Noses

Happy Halloween from our crew to yours! Over the past few weeks, our class has been working on numbers 0-5. We thought making a witch out of our five fingers was a great way to celebrate both the number 5 and Halloween! Our handprint witch has a surprise though; her nose lights up! We used battery powered tea lights for the pointy nose.

Ghost in the House

We have been reading a fun story about a sweet ghost who runs into all of his friends during an evening stroll throughout his house. The book has helped us make predictions, with sequencing, and with counting both forward and backward. Last week we got to make our own friendly little ghost to go along with our story.

We used Elmers Glue, mixed with water, a small balloon, half of a paper cup to hold the balloon, and a roll of medical gauze.

We dipped pieces of our gauze in the glue mixture and draped it over our balloon. We made sure to have it touch the table so that when it dries the ghost has something to stand up on. We let our ghost dry over the weekend. Once dry, we removed the cup and balloon and had a free standing ghost! We added eyes and smile of course!

This is the second time I have done this with students. The first time was with bigger balloons and older students. If you would like to see that, check it out here.

The Kissing Hand-Welcome to Kindergarten!

I'm excited to say I will be teaching Kindergarten Reading and Math this year! We had a great first day of school this week. We read The Kissing Hand and made our very own Kissing Hand. We also used hearts to make our own Chester the Racoon from the story. Check it out!

We used a latex free rubber glove for our kissing hand. We packed it with gift paper and made sure to leave a little sticking out for fun. We sealed it up with a rubberband and drew a heart to make our own Kissing Hand. The activity also helped  build our fine motor control.

Later on in math class, we talked about shapes, pairs, and sizes. We used an extra large heart, two large hearts, three medium hearts, and two small hearts to make our Chester the Racoon.

Flags for the Fourth

Today we talked about the letter F and the sounds it makes. We used our Fingers to make a Flag Full of Festive Fourth of July Fun. The project also helped us with our fine motor control, following verbal directions, color identification, counting, and letter sounds. We used paper, paint, and tissue paper to create our flags. Check them out!
