There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Shell

Our favorite series of books strikes again! This time the old lady swallowed a shell; just in time for our Ocean Theme! After we read the book we made our own Old Lady Who Swallowed a Shell, but this time we turned her/us into surfers.

This was a great activity for listening/reading comprehension, sequencing of the story, following directions, and fine motor control.

Sink or Float?

We have been talking a lot about the Ocean and thought now would be a great opportunity to make predictions on what may sink or float in water. We were introduced to some scientific jargon such as "Hypothesis" while we made our predictions on whether each object was a sinker or a floater.

Once we did our experiment we sorted our objects into categories-Sink or Float?

 We held each object before we put it in the water to help us make a prediction.

What Would You Like To See In Your Ocean Adventure?

Today we did a little bit of thinking and imaging just what it would be like to explore the ocean. What if we could go snorkeling right now, what would we hope to see? 

This activity was great for our imaginations as well as our logical thinking skill building. We knew we wouldn't find an elephant in the sea, but a sea turtle might just be there.
