Bessie Coleman

Today we continued our Black History Unit by studying Bessie Coleman. Ms. Coleman was the first African American woman to become a pilot, and the first African American person to earn an International Pilots license. 

In her honor we made aviator goggles and our very own air plane. This activity helped build our fine motor control, color recognition, and following direction skills. 

100th Day is Coming

Our 100th Day is slowly approaching! Hopefully we will be celebrating it on Monday- if we can keep the snow out of our way!

In preparation for the big day we have begun talking about the number 100. We took a tour of the school and tried to find ordinary things that looked like the number 100. We did a great job and got a bit creative along the way.

Later we made our hand prints into the number 100, and excitingly enough, all of our friends fingers add up to 100!

Comparing Length Rainbow

We are really hoping for spring around here! The unseasonably warm day was a welcome change and melted away our 22 inches of snow. And in that spirit we decided it was time to think about Saint Patrick's Day! Today we made a cloud with rainbow rays. All of our rays were different in lengths and we were challenged to put them in order from longest to shortest, and shortest to longest. 

The activity was great for color recognition, understanding the concept of length, ordering objects by length, and comparing lengths. Also it was a great fine motor activity!
