Dr. Patricia Bath

We continued our unit on Black History today and were excited to learn about Dr. Patricia Bath! Dr. Bath was the first African American to receive a patent for a medical invention. She changed the world of ophthalmology when she invented the Laserphaco Probe which is used to treat cataracts. In her honor we talked about what a trip to the eye doctor may be like. We even had a little fun with the machine used to check and correct eye sight.

Later we made eye charts from mixing two colors together. A great activity for our fine motor development, building color mixing understanding, and following directions.

Matryoshkas Dolls

To continue our Olympic theme and Russia today, we made Nesting Dolls, or Matryoshkas Dolls! We talked about concepts such as large, medium, and small, as well as "inside", "outside". We also practiced subtracting and adding by one.

We later made our own adorable Matryoshkas Dolls by mixing paint colors to make the background of our dolls.

To demonstrate the concepts, we worked with Mrs. Burns' own Nesting Doll of a soccer player :)
