Things I Hope to Learn About in the New Year

For our last day of celebrating the new year we made our very own dropping new years ball! To go along with our project we made our own version of a new year's resolution and thought about what we would like to learn more about in 2014.

Counting Snowballs to Make a Recycled Snowman

Today we worked on one-to-one correspondence while we "built" our recycled snowmen! First we counted out 5 "snowballs" and then added 5 more! We then added 3 more then 4 more. Once we had all of our snowballs we counted them all together. We came up with 17 snowballs! We practiced answering quantitative questions throughout the activity ("How many snowballs does the friend to your right have?" "How many all together?").

Students also built their fine motor control while putting their snowballs inside the containers. The activity also allowed for color recognition practice and following directions.

So serious....but we know better! :)

N"ew" Year!

Today we continued our New Year's theme by practicing our letter sounds. Today we worked on the "ew" sounds (like in "new" year). We took some fun photos of us practicing our N"EW" Year faces. Later we had a little fun with our silly faces by adding party blowers!

Mrs. Burns helped us by cutting a slit for our party blowers.

We threaded our party blower, glued our photos and our Happy New Year signs on.

This activity helped with letter sounds, fine motor control, color identification, and following directions.

Some "EW" outtakes!
