Recycled Dragonflies

With Earth Day just around the corner, we continued our bug theme by making recycled dragonflies! This project helped us work on shapes (ovals and circles), as well as important concepts like "first, next,  last", "bigger, smaller", fine motor control, and following directions.

(someone wrote his entire name today! So proud!)

The Grouchy Ladybug

Welcome Back! Hope you enjoyed your Spring Break!

Today we read The Grouchy Ladybug and had a great time with a couple ladybug activities. First we practiced our numbers by adding the correct number of dots to our lady bugs!

Later we made our own ladybugs! We traced our hands and added our own dots. This activity, as well as the one above helped us build a number of skills such as fine motor control, counting, number recognition, shapes, and following directions!

Butterflies

Yesterday we made caterpillars, today we made beautiful butterflies! We began the first full day of spring walking through snow showers, but it ended with sunshine and butterflies! This task had us working on fine motor control.

Spring Caterpillars

Happy Spring! It's finally here! As of 7:02 this morning, Spring has arrived!

We will be reading a number of Eric Carle books in the coming weeks and thought it best to start with one of the most famous ones, The Hungry Caterpillar! To go along with the story we made our very own spring egg caterpillars.

To put a spin on the activity our eggs had letters written on each one and we were asked to put them in alphabetical order, and to come up with words that began with each letter. We also strengthened our fine motor skills by threading the eggs together on our pipe cleaner. We had a lot of fun while working so hard, and in the process made such cute caterpillars!
