Beginning of Black History Month-Garrett Morgan

Today marked the beginning of our Black History Month Unit!  Every couple of days we will learn about someone who has made an impact on the way we live. Today we learned all about Garrett Morgan, an inventor whose most famous invention was the traffic light. In honor of Mr. Morgan we made our own traffic lights! We talked about what it meant to be an inventor, what colors are in a modern traffic lights, which order they appear in, and placement prepositions (above, below, under), all while making our traffic lights.

We are looking forward to what is to come this month! Mrs. B is most looking forward to teaching us about Harriet Tubman as our campus is full of such history as a last stop (and tunnel under state lines) of the Underground Railroad.

Valentine Butterflies

Today we worked on creating a Valentine's Day butterfly. We worked on descriptive words (lighter, darker), colors, shapes, prepositions (behind, in front), direction following, and face part placement. The end result; our skills were a little sharper and our Valentine's Day butterflies even cuter!

Making Patterns with Conversation Hearts

We put a little spin on working on patterns today. We used conversation  hearts to create assigned patterns, and then go creative and made our own patterns and shared them with the group. After we completed our patterns of hearts we drew our own! We worked on AB, AABB, following directions, color identification, sight words, prepositions (next, after, before), and counting during this fun activity!

We Found Our Shadows - Groundhog Day

We pretended to be Groundhogs today! We have been waiting for that sun to shine long enough for us to pretend to be groundhogs for a whole week! We had so much fun with our own shadows; Happy Groundhog Day!
